The most common question we hear is not about the procedure. It is about the week after it. Because VASER is performed under local anaesthetic and you are discharged the same day, recovery looks very different from the surgery most people imagine.
Day 0: walk in, walk out
Treatment typically takes around two hours. You are awake throughout, and once you have been monitored briefly you are fitted with your compression garment and discharged the same day. Gentle walking is encouraged that very evening, as movement helps drainage and reduces stiffness.
Expect leakage of tumescent fluid from the access points for the first 24 to 48 hours. It is normal, expected, and the reason for the dressings you go home in.
Days 1 to 3: sore, not painful
Most patients describe the sensation as an intense workout rather than pain, managed with simple over-the-counter relief. The compression garment stays on continuously. Short, frequent walks beat long periods on the sofa.
Days 3 to 7: back to normal life
Most people return to desk-based work within three to seven days. Physical or manual work usually needs one to two weeks. Bruising peaks and begins to fade in this window.
Weeks 2 to 6: swelling settles
Visible swelling largely resolves between two and four weeks. Light cardio can usually resume at around two weeks, and full-intensity training, lifting and high-impact sport from four to six weeks, guided by your check-up appointments.
This is also when included recovery support does the most work: Green Laser sessions, E-Body Sculpting for tone, and lymphatic drainage where it forms part of your package.
Months 3 to 6: the real result
Deeper residual swelling continues resolving for months. Most patients see a clear change by six weeks and the final, refined contour between three and six months. Photographs taken too early almost always undersell the outcome.
What speeds recovery up
- Wearing the compression garment exactly as instructed.
- Walking daily from the first evening.
- Hydration and protein-adequate meals.
- Attending every follow-up appointment.
- Not smoking, ideally for two weeks either side of treatment.
